Part 2: Getting Your Home Market Ready, Room by Room
In my last post I talked about the big picture things to consider before you list. Today let's get specific. Room by room, here is what buyers notice, what they remember, and what makes them pick up the phone and call their agent.
The First Impression: Entry and Foyer
This sets the tone for the entire showing. Your entry should feel clean, uncluttered, and welcoming. A fresh coat of paint on the front door goes a long way. Ask yourself what a buyer feels the moment they step inside. That feeling starts here.
The Kitchen
Buyers spend more time in the kitchen than anywhere else. Clear the countertops completely. Clean all appliances inside and out. Do not forget under the sink. Buyers look there. You do not have to remodel. Clean and decluttered beats outdated and cluttered every single time.
The Living Areas
Remove excess furniture. Less is more. Buyers need to see your floors and your space. Neutral is your friend. A fresh plant or simple flowers adds life without personalizing the space.
The Master Bedroom
Your master bedroom should feel like a retreat. Make the bed like a hotel. Clear the nightstands. And clean out at least half of your closet. Buyers always open closets and you want them to see space, not stuff.
Bathrooms
Spotless is the only standard. Remove all personal items from counters. Put out fresh towels. Clean the mirrors. Buyers notice grout, caulk, and fixtures. These small details signal how well the whole home has been maintained.
The Garage
Most sellers forget this one. Buyers absolutely look in the garage. An organized and clean garage signals a well maintained home. If you have too much stuff, rent a storage unit. It is worth every penny.
The Bottom Line
You do not have to have a perfect home to sell it well. You have to have a prepared home. There is a big difference. Prepared says to a buyer, these owners took care of this place. That feeling translates directly into offers.
